Which hub
Newark for a lot of transatlantic from the New York area. San Francisco and Los Angeles for Pacific. Houston and Chicago for Latin America and the middle of the country. Dulles for a Washington-area story. If you hate a particular hub, say so; rerouting a Star itinerary is often possible if the dates are not the Saturday before Christmas.
Polaris and Premium Plus
Polaris is United’s long-haul business. Premium Plus is a premium-economy cabin on some aircraft. They are not interchangeable, and not every route has both. Equipment changes happen; we quote the cabin, not a particular seat map, unless you ask us to check.
Basic economy
Same warning as other US majors: the cheapest box can restrict the bag you thought was free. If you are connecting from a Star partner that includes a bag, the mix can get philosophical. We would rather ticket a coherent fare.
Star partners
Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, ANA, Singapore, Air Canada, Turkish, Thai, Air India and others appear on United-marketed tickets. The operating crew will be theirs. The delay policy may feel like United’s problem until it does not — we name the operator so you know who you are flying.
